    can you go from a honeywell pro series to a regular nest? Or do you need a pro series Nest

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY 8 дней назад

      Hey @neilpatel2898 👋 so I demonstrate exactly that. I go from a Honeywell pro series to a Google Nest. Now the thing you need to check is if you're current HVAC system is compatible with Nest. You can Google "nest compatibility checker" and Google does a good job at that walk through. There are only 2 different kinds of Nest thermostats. The normal Nest thermostat (looks like it has a cloudy screen and is more plastic-y) and then the Nest learning thermostat (looks metal, nice clear glass screen, better, etc). There isn't a Nest Pro thermostat. That is more for if you want someone who is installing your thermostat and they are a "Nest pro (professional)" to do the install. Does that help?

      I would run through Google's compatibility checker and that will actually give you the chance to put in any wire you have and your setup, to see how Nest/Google would recommend installing your wires or if you're system would even work to support the Nest

      Often that is taken care of by a door sweep, which I could make a video on, or there is a bottom of the door strip that you have to screw on and then adjust the height then tighten. Didn't demonstrate that in this video but I have a storm door video that shows that bit

    Thanks. I just moved into a new house and master bedroom has a plate over the where the light fixture would be and the light switch on the wall. Do I need to use a specific light switch for a fan ? There’s a box full of switches here and figured I could just grab one of those. Great video btw

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY 21 день назад

      Great question. So often in newer built homes in the master bedroom (especially larger or more expensive places) the floor plan will call for ceiling recessed lights in the corners of the room, wire a ceiling rated box for the center, then just cover it with a plate. What I would recommend is take the plate (cover) off and try to see what kind of box you have. If it's ceiling fan rated, sweet (plenty of resources you can just Google 'how to know if a electrical box is ceiling fan rated) or you see if the box is secured to a joist. Attic access or looking around the box. If it is, Great 👍. The multiple switches is telling that it's likely already ceiling fan rated, but do you your homework. Sometimes those electrical boxes and just be for chandeliers, where it could be rated to hold heavier fixtures, but not rated to take on the constant moving like with a motor of a celling fan.

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY Месяц назад

      Have you tried turning it on and off again? Haha. Kidding. Could be a few things: 1. The screw isn't grabbing because not enough pressure is being applied while getting to screw it in 2. It's not grabbing because the material behind your sheetrock isn't actually wood. Could be a plaster, a metal sheet or something else that a wood screw wouldn't normally grab 3. There is something obstructing it like a water pipe, pex, pvc clean out drain, etc. I would highly recommend trying to understand where any potential pipes or material your house is made up of to see if you are able to complete this project. This is just a demonstration of one way to complete this project. So if you have concerns or any issues, I would consult a local general contractor in your area. Best of luck!!

      That's interesting. Have you tried to Google the make and model of your dishwasher to see if you are able to find a guide or if others have experienced the same issue with that make and model? Hello! I am closing on a new build soon. It is a walkout so the lower part of the wall is cement, the top part is insulated. Would I still have to add insulation to the cement portion or can I just frame right over it?

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY Месяц назад

      Personally I would still insulate over anything cement. How cement is so porous, its not a good material to regulate the temperature of your home plus there is the moisture aspect. It comes down to how much of your wall is cement and how much are you okay with having that part of your home allow the possibility of more moisture and the outside temp influence your home temp. In this video the insulation is a cheap and put up by the builders but really is there because its a moisture barrier. After I got done framing this, I added more insulation between the studs to help with temp regulation.

    I have to replace my wiring for the sensors...What is the easiest way to do this? I already bought new sensors off of amazon and when plugged directly into the unit they work...just need a longer wire to reach the garage door. What type of wire do I need for this?

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY Месяц назад

      Great question. I've seen/heard people use 18/2 bell wire, I've seen 18/2 security wire, 20/2 bell wire, some have even suggested a 22/2 wire. If it's for one garage door and it's a pretty basic/generic run of the mill garage door with sensors, you can get anywhere between a 20/2 bell wire to 22/2. Now this is all under the assumption that you are able rewire the sensors with a longer continual piece of wire, if not, you may have to cut the wire somewhere, strip it, cap it with more wire , then run that to your garage door opener. Does that help?

    • @timdilenschneider5534
      @timdilenschneider5534 Месяц назад

      @@ColtonCrumpDIYyes super helpful thank you! I’ve picked up some wire and I’ll get to it today. One last question- I have the same “quick connect” terminals as shown in this video, for the sensors did you connect 2 wires into each quick connect terminal (2 white/2 black in each slot) or did you splice the 2 separate sensor wires into 1 and then connect that 1 white/1 black into the terminal? Thanks!

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY Месяц назад

      @timdilenschneider5534 either way to be honest. I personally just took the same color of each sensor and made sure they went into the same terminal. Then the same with the other color. You'll probably get a more secure connection if you twist them together into one then inserted.

    In the panel the breaker was a 20amp but the wiring was white (15 amp romex) was that accurate or am I seeing things? I think you should have yellow romex that’s rated for 20 amp circuit. I only say something because I am currently about to install my dishwasher and am finding conflicting information for dw circuit requirements.

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY Месяц назад

      So I'm not a certified electrician. From what I have seen and read (looking over NEC being a source), is the answer is it depends lol. How much power will your dishwasher draw to run, are you planning to put more on the circuit like a disposal or other outlets (maybe GFCI), or do you want to have t the dishwasher have is item dedicated circuit? This setup demonstrated had a the 15 rated Romex (white) protected by a GFCI on the same line running it to a 20 breaker. Which is fine to have the wiring rated less than the breaker but not fine to have the breaker less than the line. Hope this helps explain what you saw. I also didn't wire this house when it was built. Just demonstrating an ol swap-a-roo.

      That's right! Though, he could've cleaned the floor off camera? Installing a new DW without cleaning the floor = yuck.

      you're not wrong. hindsight 100% should have cleaned off camera. Because what happened was after everything was said and done, it was cleaned afterwards and the video was already up and published. haha ill remember this next time for an appliance install video.

    OTHER INSTALL NOTES: This is also a great time to flush your drain hose before installation, you'd be surprise how much gunk has accumulated over time. DIRECTIONS: Remove the hose entirely from the system and take it to another sink and run the water through the hose until the water passes through freely. (It’s BEST to execute this process outdoors with a garden hose if you do not have a laundry/utility sink to use.) Afterwards re-install it, on the sink side first.
